6 Gadgets To Help The Athlete Stay On Track

Updated on September 2nd, 2019

It seems that wherever we go, we see technology. Whether it’s a digital billboard or just seeing a smartphone, it’s almost always around the corner.

In addition to entertainment, technology can be used in work, school, and athletics. There are so many gadgets out there for athletes, but they are rarely given the spotlight. These six gadgets will help athletes in their everyday exercises.

1. Fitness Trackers/Smart Watches

Everyone, athlete or not, seems to own a fitness tracker and/or smart watch. Why not? These small guys simply sit on your wrist and can tell you everything you need to know about your vitals.

They Can Do A Range Of Thins, Including:

  • Stairs climbed (Counted by floor)
  • Steps (their most popular function)
  • Calories burned
  • Minutes spent being active (tracked by your heart rate)
  • Track heart rate
  • Track your sleep stages, and how many hours of sleep you’re really getting.
  • Track progress in specific workouts.

In addition to those things, smartwatches can also track sun exposure, and keep a GPS. This is all controlled through a smartphone app.

The benefit to an athlete is enormous, as it would keep track of vitals and other important information. There are several brands to chose from, the most popular currently being a Fitbit or Apple watch.

There was a day when I was getting excited for a run. Normally, I stay indoors so this was unusual. I had my phone, so I hooked my earbuds in and started playing music. I made one wrong move and sent my earbuds flying…right into a mudpuddle. They didn’t work after that.

Wire headphones are great for many things, but athletics usually isn’t one of them. Many of the regulars at the gym I go to use Bluetooth, and it’s completely logical.

They can run, bike, lift weights, and more with Bluetooth earbuds or headphones. You aren’t likely to yank on the cord and hurt them.

Some brands, such as the jaybird, are even waterproof and won’t be damaged by sweat.

3. Kinexon Tracking System

The Kinexon Tracking System is currently used in basketball. The device is a small sensor that sits in between the shoulder blades.

It’s used to track movement and body position. In addition to high energy sports, such as basketball, baseball, or football, this is also great for low movement athletics such as stretching, weightlifting, and yoga.

As these sports, especially yoga, involve a huge amount of body position so it’s great for those involved in these sports.

4. Dreem Sleep System

One of the biggest components in anyone’s life is sleep, especially if they use a large amount of energy. Of course, athletes expel a vast amount of energy.

The Dreem head band is great for coaching your brain to learn how to improve your sleep quality. Check out the website for more information.

The Headband Can:

  • Measure heart rate
  • Measure breathing rate
  • Record Body position
  • Record brain activity
  • Play ambient sounds to help the brain relax

In addition to all of this, it’s great for helping you wake up as well. You simply set an interval for when you want to wake up (say between six and seven in the morning) and it will choose the time your brain is most alert during that interval, making waking up so much easier.

5. Slendertone

The Slendertone is a waist band designed to work out those abs. It’s designed to be worn for 30 minutes a day and that can be while you’re at work or it can be incorporated into your regular fitness routine.

In addition to working out your abs, it measures your progress and gives the results through an app you can install on your phone.

It’s great for those who are looking to get a little more exercise in, even if they have an office job, but it’s also great for Athletes looking to get a little bit more in their daily routine.

At the end of a hard workout, everyone is inevitably sore. The muscles have just spent an hour being push to (and often past) their limit. Did you know that in the long run, that’s really bad for them?

I’m not telling you that you shouldn’t work out. But after a long session, the muscles need a minute to cool off and calm down.

That’s where the Power dot comes in. The small device connects to skin and massages the muscles, cooling them off after a hard, but rewarding workout. For athletes, who are regularly doing this, it’s a small, portable way to help your muscles.

Final Words

As is the case with just about everything, there are several gadgets out there to help athletes. These wearable devices will have long lasting improvements with little effort required. They all can be controlled with a phone, making it much simpler.
